THE
Letter from Jan
Hugill, Admin Secretary, ACWW - November 2007
On behalf of ACWW I am delighted to acknowledge
the further donation totalling £1,710.99 from members in the Federation of Essex
Women's Institutes.
AROUNDThis additional contribution to our funds is so very much
appreciated and we are most grateful for your generosity and strong support for
our work. Please convey our thanks to all you members.
ACWW update July 2006
The latest grant to be made from ACWW's Tsunami Disaster Fund is £3,200, awarded to the Nutrition Network Tamil Nadu Trust, India. The money will go towards the training in tailoring of 50 girls and buying cows for 10 tsunami widows. The Trust says 'Our trainees will look after their age parents, widows and their children'. Hundreds of people will benefit directly or indirectly from the project. Milk from the cows will be an economic resource for the widows, who would otherwise be destitute. Both groups had been fishsellers before the tsunami struck but were afraid to go back to work beside the sea.
This is the sort of work that your contributions to the Essex Federation Appeal will be going to, a very important part of the work of ACWW. Please keep adding your money to the Koins for Korea Appeal as this will go to aid similarly destitute people.
We collect foreign coins,so please save them and pass to any of the WI advisers.

Coach trip 20th October
The day starts by meeting our guide at the new Salvation Army International HQ close to the Millennium Bridge. A short walk in the lanes and yards between the river and St Pauls recalls the history of the great monastic houses and the philanthropic history of the guilds and livery companies. This is followed by a coach trip to hear the great charitable works of the many Victorian philanthropists, including Elizabeth Fry and Clara Grant. For lunch there are many cafes and pubs in Bloomsbury.
The highlight of the day is the visit
to the Foundling Hospital established in 1730 by Capt. Thomas Coram
who was horrified by the sight of dead and dying babies abandoned on
the streets. Many famous artists and musicians of the day supported
the work of their hospital and pitiful tokens left by mothers are
displayed here. We stay for tea and leave for home at 4.45pm.
Walking is kept to a comfortable minimum. |

WEEE DIRECTIVE (WASTE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT) |
| If you are purchasing electrical equipment from a retailer, the retailer is obliged to offer free take-back or an alternative free service. (This includes internet sellers.) In addition, you have the option to return old unwanted electrical equipment on a like for like basis to your retailer. "Like for like" is understood to mean equipment that is of equivalent type or fulfils the same function. This means you will be able to take back an old personal compact disc player when buying a new one. It also implies that an old cassette player could be returned when a compact disc player is being purchased, because both are used for the function of playing recorded music and sound. You have the option of disposing of your equipment at designated collection facilities within local authorities and it will be the responsibility of the manufacturer of that equipment to finance its disposal.
